Also, its a really good time, with music (from DJ Cosmo John), food, drinks, friends, freebies, and all sort of raffle and silent auction items to win.

Who: You! All are welcome and encouraged to attend. All ages.

A special thanks to Void Magazine, Green Room Brewing, Bombora Vodka, and Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida for sponsoring the event

And big thanks to our raffle and silent auction donors: Fluid Surfboards (a custom-shaped board!), Sunrise Surf Shop, Jacksonville Jaguars, Burro Bags, Trident Surf, Muvmnt watches, Slider’s Seafood Grille, Cason Photography, Home Depot, Drew’s Surf Stick, Royal Palm Village Wine and Tapas, Buddha’s Thai Bistro, Adventure Bracelets, Target and more!

January Chapter Meeting

When: Tuesday, January 17, 2012 @ 7pm

Where: The Groove Cafe

134 Sea Grove Main Street, Saint Augustine Beach, FL

Hey Saint Augustine! Our first Chapter Meeting of the year is going to be at The Groove Cafe. St. Augustiners, we need your help! Our Executive Committee now has only 1 member from St. Augustine. We need your representation and involvement to help guide our Chapter and grow our presence and effectiveness in St. Augustine. We have all kinds of ways to get involved, we just need some committed folks that care about the oceans, waves, and beaches to step up. We are starting our new Ocean Friendly Gardens campaign, and we have two projects on the horizon for that. We also need help putting together out biggest fundraiser of the year: Black Tie and Baggies. Another area we are hoping to expand is our engagement of local schools by establishing Surfrider clubs at colleges and high schools, and visiting other classrooms. Additionally, this year marks our 10th as a chapter, and we’re going to be celebrating all year. We’re developing a t-shirt to commemorate that, and will be throwing a Member Appreciation Party. We need all the help we can get, and all the help you can give.

Surfers, parents, students, teachers, everybody – please come out to the meeting to learn how to get involved and have a say in the future of the chapter. Together, we’ll make 2012 (our 10th year as a chapter) our best year yet!

  • Update on Black Tie & Baggies
  • Update on Ocean Friendly Gardens campaign
  • Tenth anniversary events
  • member appreciation party on 2/18
  • 10th Anniversary T-shirt

To celebrate International Surfing Day, we’ll have an after-work (or before-work, or neither as the case may be) paddle out followed by a sunset beach cleanup. It should be a fun time for a good cause.

Bottles for Boardshorts:

We are excited to be working with our friends at Billabong and Chipotle on a special ISD contest and fundraiser for this year’s International Surfing Day.
On June 20 (between 11am-2pm), the first 15 people to bring in a bag of plastic bottles to Chipotle (the St Johns Town Center location) will win a pair of recycled boardshorts from Billabong. The person to bring in the most bottles at this location, will receive a B9 wetsuit made from recycled bottles and materials! Additionally, 50% of all proceeds at participating Chipotles will go to the Surfrider Foundation on June 20th from 11 am – 2 pm.
So do your part by recycling some single-use plastic bottles and Chipotle and Billabong will reward you, and if you pick up a burrito while you’re there, you’ll be helping a good cause.
