Surfrider is currently compiling various activists’ comments regarding why they joined the Surfrider Foundation. It got me to thinking about my involvement with the Foundation. I think I joined about a year or so after the Surfrider Foundation was formed after seeing an add for it in Surfing Magazine. At the time I was living in Virginia but not along the coast or near an active chapter.
I believed in what the organization stood for and wanted to donate to their cause. I had always been interested in environmental issues and wanted to give back to the sport and the oceans that have given me so much pleasure over the years.
It was not until I arrived in Jacksonville six years ago that I was finally able to get involved with chapter activites and I was thrilled to finally get the opportunity to get some hands on experience with the organization.
Since that time I have been fortunate to have gotten involved with a great number of activities in the First Coast Chapter as well as regionally and now am delighted to have the opportunity to serve the chapter as its Chair.
We have been very active this year and have a number of worthwhile activities and campaigns in the works.
In order to complete our mission we need the talents and energy of as many of our members as possible. As such I ask all of our members to think about why they got involved with Surfrider and come out and join us in our efforts.
Thanks for your support and I will look forward to seeing you at a future meeting or event.
